Community safety

As a candidate running for Mayor of Darebin, I am dedicated to addressing community needs and enhancing safety in our public spaces.

Laneways and Public Places

I want pedestrians to feel safe in Darebin. Adequate street lighting in dark laneways is essential. Entrances and exits of council buildings need sensor lighting to ensure people feel safe when entering and exiting these buildings.

Safety in Laneways

There are safety concerns regarding laneways. Vehicles exiting laneways face blind spots that endanger pedestrians and other vehicles. Both sides of the laneway are built up, limiting peripheral vision. Installing street lighting and mirrors will help drivers and pedestrians feel safe.

Extra Shelter and Seating

I propose adding extra shelter and seating at tram, train, and bus stops. Additional seating in the streetscape will accommodate residents and protect commuters from the hot summers and cold winters. Extra seating in public areas would benefit those who need rest or for communal gatherings.

Improved Bus Transport Routes

I will explore new bus transport routes in the outer part of Reservoir to allow buses to interconnect with other transport modes. Currently, there is a lack of transport on the east side, and the different modes of public transport don't link together. A system similar to the city loop would be beneficial to residents.

Tram Stop Sign Repositioning

Repositioning the stop signs currently located on tram doors to a lower position would make the signs more visible to vehicles. Installing cameras on trams to fine vehicles that do not stop to allow pedestrians on and off stationary trams (state level) will enhance safety.
